In scouts you gain knowledge as well as learn many methods on how to overcome various scenarios. For instance, treating burns, snakebites and even dislocated and fractured limbs.

Scouts teaches you many lessons in life as well as learning how to handle quite difficult and stressful situations. They rarely teach you about the ‘small things’ that could go wrong. This very camp taught me one of those ‘lessons’, that even the smallest little creature in abundance could have a huge impact on the way a Camp would turn out.

It was a hot sunny day with a long hike ahead of us, debating on which route to hike upon, we end up deciding to hike down a valley. Little did we know there was something lurking at the bottom of the vally waiting for us.

As we walk cautiously down the steep Mountain valley, the sun is at its peak ,our energy is low and we’re just about to collapse, but we still strive (as Scouts do) to reach the bottom.

The trees rustling above us in the breeze, rocks falling with every step.
We come across a fallen tree in our path,
As my one fellow scout and myself hurdle over, behind us we hear the sound of a buzzing noise. A mosquito? Or fly?
No, but a swarm of BEE’S.

We drop our bags and run for our lives, hearing the treacherous screams of the others.
Trying not to focus too much on the horrible things that we imagine are happening. Instead we run on, looking for the scouters that are ahead.

We eventually run into a helpful couple , that are kind enough to provide some water and show us directions to a nearby house. Inside was another couple. They listened to our story and decided to jump in their 4×4 and help us rescue our friends.

We pull up to where we left them and the man goes jumping in to save them. We see them all stumble out and they are unrecognizable, with stings everywhere and puffed up faces that sort of look like oompa loompas.

Heading back to camp as the sun goes down, thankful we are all okay. Having our last meal and hitting the hay. This is the lesson we learnt we learned from that day.

GO SCOUTS!!!
